Living with a lighter touch in Hexham

For Caroline Watkins, living comfortably and sustainably are of equal importance. As the first resident to move into our Hexham Gate development, in the stunning rural setting of the Tyne Valley, she loves the fact she can live an eco-efficient lifestyle without compromising on space, light and stylish design.

“My daughter lives in Northumberland and my son in London so when I started to develop some problems with my eyesight, I felt it was a good opportunity to move closer to one of my children in case I needed some help and support,” says Caroline.

“I have always loved Northumberland. Hexham in particular has been a favourite place of mine to visit. When I saw the houses being built at Hexham Gate, I felt it was the perfect opportunity. My home here overlooks trees and woodland to the rear, so the position could not be more perfect for me.”

Consistent with our ethos, each of the 16 beautiful properties at Hexham Gate showcases elegant Scandinavian-inspired style and modern design. Open-plan living areas, luxurious bathrooms and kitchens and airy bedrooms enhance the feeling of space and comfort.

Due to challenges with her eyesight, Caroline choose a home flooded with natural light. “One of the main attractions for me with this development was the light. The open-plan design and positioning of the windows means the light in every room is just wonderful – so bright and fresh and very ‘Scandiwegian’ as I call it!”

She was also attracted by the opportunity to live in a more eco-efficient way. “My previous home in High Wycombe was an older property and so quite cold and difficult to heat,” she says. “It couldn’t be further from where I am now. My new house maintains a lovely temperature thanks to the energy conscious design.”

Build for Scandinavian winters, Northumberland weather has proven to be no match for Caroline’s home. Our top-quality materials and exacting construction process ensure that all of our homes significantly exceed British regulations for energy efficiency. That’s why, in 2017, the Hexham Gate development was shortlisted for a RICS North East Renaissance Award, recognising it as one of the region’s most outstanding developments in both the Residential and Design Through Innovation categories.

Caroline says: “With the added benefits of all the energy saving features, this is a home which is a joy to live in.”
